Victoria Nurses Home, then and now

1933 vs. 2014

Rudolf Hamburger (1903-1980), a German architect, worked in Shanghai in the 1930s. He was employed by the SMC in 1930–1933. Besides the new building of the Victoria Nurses Home (1933), which replaced the old one from 1899, he worked on several other municipal projects – possibly a school and a prison building – as mentioned here.

This was a super-brief issue of the NETA column, which features obscure architects of Shanghai.
