Fin de Siecle – research blog on the visual history of Shanghai

Fin de Siecle has a meticulously researched Chinese-language Wechat channel Phantom Shanghai 上海幻影, with 28 articles, plus more visual material on the now dormant, but still rich, Flickr photostream.

Some of my favorite investigations:
Kaiser Wilhelm Schule (German School), at the corner of Avenue Haig and Great Western Road, now completely gone.
Fangbang Road in the old town, in color, in 1948.
New World, Great World, Flower World – amusement centers of old Shanghai.
From the French Club to the Okura Garden Hotel – with rare photos.
The long-gone Luna Park in Yangtzsepoo.
Photos of the Jade Buddha Temple and around.
Shanghai Concert Hall in 1959 (former Nanking Theatre) and former Casanova Ballroom.
