Historian's work

Karl Schlögel, 1995: "We move from one knot to another and never finish the tapestry. Our only criterion is the strength of the fabric and the pattern that forms from a thousand knots. The historian's work consists of connecting severed threads and rebuilding individual trajectories, connections between persons and chains of events. Our work becomes meaningful if we succeed in exposing what has thus far remained hidden."
