Disappeared Dongjiadu

A couple weeks ago my trusted photographer friend and I went out to see what's left of the old docks.

St. Xavier's Cathedral had installed a basket in the courtyard. Normally they use it as a parking lot. Perhaps with so much parking space in place of the old blocks there is no more need for that.

Through the seemingly endless sea of rubble we made it to the Sea Merchants' Guildhall. It's still there, scooped out of its environment and still hard to get inside. In fact, I've never been able to get inside the eastern hall to the left. There does not seem to be much left there, though.

Inside the House of Shen (沈家大院) demolished by one third migrant workers were stationed on two floors. They work on interior repairs in new buildings and camp out here until the House of Shen gets moved. This promises to be one of the those magic engineering feats Shanghai is so proud of.
